T. M. Krishna: On web-streaming Season concerts in 2011

This is a recent post by artiste T. M. Krishna on his social media page –

In December 2011, we web-streamed (live) three of my December Season concerts for a charge. This was the FIRST time Music Season concerts were broadcast professionally the world over and that too using the Pay-Per-View model!

We kept each concert video online for 24 hours to allow for people to catch up in case the time difference was not conducive or if they wanted a second viewing. Much like watching sporting events, friends and families gathered at homes and watched the concert. I was dissuaded by many, “no one will pay for concerts” I was told. But people did, and all the artists involved in those concerts made more money because of the streaming.

The company that enabled it was Hoogli. Roopa Seshadri, handled almost everything from the company end. We used dialup modems (if I remember right) and somehow made it work. My student Vikram Raghavan handled all the backend work.
