This is perhaps one sabha whose events are sparse through the year but in December, its schedule overflows.
Imagine some 50 days of concerts – music, dance, dance-dramas, plays and nagaswaram.
That is the way Brahma Gana Sabha rolls out its Season. With generous support from patron Nalli Kuppuswami. Managed by a handful of people – how they do this, please do not ask!
The 2025 fest on Dec.12 at TAG-Dakshinamurthi Hall in the P. S. School campus, Mylapore with Sandhya Purecha, head of Sangeet Natak Akademi, the chief guest.
It is also an occasion to decorate artistes; A. Kanyakumari, C. V. Chandra Mohan, Parvathi Ravi Ghatasala and Suguna Varadachari are listed for honours.
For 15 evenings, there are a string of music concerts at this hall, the 6.30 p.m. one by established artistes – Sid Sriram, Palghat Ramprasad, Carnatica Bros. and Pantula Rama, to mention a few.
Then, follow the classical dance recitals.
“We host the large dance dramas for a week at Narada Gana Sabha,” says secretary Ravichandran, who is the A to Z man of this sabha.
Once the dance recitals end around Pongal time, there is the nagaswaram festival, featuring some top artistes.
This sabha, though old in its history, does not have its own space. It launched its Season festival at M. Ct. M. School in Alwarpet but work on Chennai Metro forced it to seek another venue.
