The December Season arrives early, in late November, when the music fest of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai Kendra, takes off.
This edition of the festival of music and dance, was formally launched on November 22 with R. N. Ravi, governor of Tamil Nadu as the chief guest. Nagaswaram vidwan and his co artistes set the mood with their music as rasikas streamed into the main auditor.
The house was full by the time Vishaka Hari began her Harikatha, much in keeping with the mood of the Season.
Bhavan’s concerts draw a good crowd because rasikas get to listen to some top artistes and for free.
Among the top artistes featured are Sudha Ragunathan, Vijay Siva, Abhishek Raghuram, Sandeep Narayanan, Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and Vijayalakshmi and A. Kanyakumari.
There will also be discourses by Dushyant Sridhar, Sivasriskanda Prasad and thematic presentations by Ghatam Karthik, Thiruvarur Bakthavatsalam, Subhasree Thanikachalam and Charulatha Mani.
All the programmes are non-ticketed and open to all.
